I'm fascinated by the Fiji forgeries. Floortrader, do you have any information about what the motivation was for creating these forgeries? My research turned up a little information -- that they are sometimes called "the Maryland forgeries" and that they are often (always?) stamped forgery on the back. But I have no idea why anyone would go to the trouble of making these forgeries. |

SNOPES --- I have no information on the back ground about who made those forgeries . There is on line two websites that explains how to I.D. the fakes .
I have to believe and guessing those stamps came about like many classic forgeries . The stamp album makers and publishers ,were creating albums in the early 20th century but knew little about aviabllity of those stamps printed in their albums . So there was pressure in the philatelic community to supply the stamps that were given space in the albums . |

floortrader,
Congratulations on earning your black belt!
I think your collection passed "decent" some time back. You might be heading toward a different adjective at this point.

Thanks --ZENDO59 and STATESMAN , For 11 years it has been Jiu-Jitsu in the morning and recovery in the afternoon with stamps . Both activities were tireless commitments and perseverance.

Thanks ---Greendragon and Cursus . Ok ,agree I am past "Decent " not sure how to explain it but it is a journey without end . The nice thing and we all should respect the fact we all do it different and we all like to say "we did it our way ".
What I like is seeing what others are doing and always amazed that what I thought I created or started in my collection ,is being done already by someone else thousands of miles away . I took a set of Scott Internationals albums and cut the pages down to fit a three ring binder ,then went out and purchased 25 white binders with three rings . Then wrote labels with the first page country and the last page country on each binder ,making it easy to work with this was a few years back . Last month I received a monthly philatelic magazine and sure enough a picture of someone had done the same thing . Oh well we are not that different . |
