GeoffHa ----agree there is stuff we don't care for ,or want to make the effort to buy and mount but that comes with the territory . For me as a WW collector the only thing is to hope it shows up in a multi-box purchase ,so I feel it just along for the ride without spending money on it . |

Floor- the 2 paper types have strongly different gum, one being brownish to brown and the other clear and white. |

Complete sets always look nice on those home-made pages! One rarely finds sets like these in random box lots. Lots of short sets though! |

Another fun country to collect , it was a country a young collector had trouble to find stamps for . All my early albums always had blank spaces for Cambodia and only once I began to attend stamp auctions did I ever see stamps from this country . |

Just received a stamp auction catalog in the mail this past week . Last night , sat down to see what it contained . Seen a stamp that I only see once ,that was while I was in High School at our local stamp club almost 60 years ago . The owner was showing it off to the whole stamp club as his "gem" it cataloged around $500.00 ,everyone at the club made a big deal over it .
I said to myself ,someday I am going to have a copy ,someday never came . The price continued to climb ,seen it many times up for auction but it never was the right time as other interest took it's place . Last night decided the heck with this and my desire never was filled and if you asked me 60 years ,50years ago ,even 20 years ago this was the stamp I was missing and wanted ,so from 15 years old to now 75 years old .....screw it ..... Looked at the stock market today and with everything down too much I put the trade on to get MY STAMP . Lets just say market correction or not that auction lot is going home to me . |

cheap stamps in nice album 10-30% cat stamps that catalog for 20-25 cents which are really worth 1 penny or less. Most collections though have much 5-10 dollar stuff Better stamps 30-50% cat Better really refers to stamps with lower print runs or in demand stamps. They can range from 10 bucks all the way to 200 dollars Rare stamps 50-80% cat - Rare stamps are the blanks in everyone's album usually due to cost - ~200 plus or 200-2000 range These are just ball park numbers. Exceptions everywhere. For example, there are rare stamps bought at auction for even 100 dollars. |

Green Dragon ---- You have to give a higher percentage of value to any complete set . As for me the value is one thing but when I see anybody's collection the fact their is a lot of complete sets that rings a bell with me to keep looking at the collection . I know a lot of readers here just count stamps for a total but for me it is the viewing of complete sets that puts the collection at a higher level.. As we discussed before most box lots and mixtures available both at auction firms and on ebay have been picked over three or four times before you get a chance at it .So it is no surprise any complete sets are long gone |

New addition to my collecting ,Trinidad is one of those countries that when you look thru other people's collection you only find a few stamps . To have a complete set is extra special for any collector . |

Here is something that is unusual a stamp album /binder for the PITCAIRN ISLANDS . I could find no reference of a album being sold as a separate country ,they are usually just a few pages in a album for the British area of the Pacific . .This week I made up a binder of just Pitcairn Islands . Have about 50 pages in it and some 50 different sets included . |

Here is a problem that I have not figured out for years . As a worldwide collector .I have purchased many other people's collection . My usual method is just remove the stamps and add them to my collection and throw away the previous owners albums and binders . But sometimes you receive pages well done in art work or someone spend the time to do a artful layout . My thing is just put it on the bookcase and deal with it later . But later never comes for years ,here is a page of a large binder full with nice art work that I just don't want to destroy or remove the stamps so I just keep it intact . |

floortrader, that artful layout stack could make an extremely nice appendix album for your collection. I measured scott pages and minkus pages. Both are 9.25 inches wide by 11.25 inches high. Scott specialty album pages are 10 inches wide by 11.5 inches high.
I searched a bit and found at least one supplier of 12 inch by 12 inch page protectors for 3-ring binders. A bit pricey but it would look nice I think. It would be a very interesting beautiful-page collection! |

floor trader - agree. If the collection is filled with complete sets, and better items I am willing to pony up. |

I think the Russia page is very attractive and interesting. That said, it greatly distracts my eyes from appreciating the stamps. |

I have that problem with pages or entire albums! Not very space efficient for sure, but fun to look at |
