Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

I know it's not popular in this thread, but when you have catalogues and supplemental information, you find the variations, not buy them already identified and marked up.

I am returning to my love of stamp collecting in my "big blue" after 4 years now that I have a little more free time. Much has changed, Jim Jackson has completed the "first run " of his blog. Dilip Limaye has made his inventory checklist available and I came across this thread which is just awesome ! I read it from start to finish and eagerly waiting for more posts from our rockstar collectors and teachers like floortrader, GeoffHa and many more.

It is important for guest and new collectors to see different viewpoints on the various subjects . Nice to see a neatly mounted W.W. collection and see how various members keep their own collection . .

The freedom of taking the conversation into different directions helps make this a popular site

cjd - The hunt is where real money is made for sure. I was just saying I would rather have the cheap stamp then pay hundreds to thousands because of an insignificant error/misprint etc.. Let the specialists or nerds have their fun. I do have some collections where I nerd out and pick up varieties but on avg, I don't.

Got into a discussion last weekend with someone about the different types of worldwide collectors and the results of having different types of collections . They said a worldwide collection is of only known as one type and I try to differ and say there are many factors to classify what type it is .

They insisted the hobby paints all worldwide collections as one type ,just a WW collection . So I said let me study this subject and see what has been written on the subject .

Someone needs to break this down or start identify types better or classify this with more detail . Give me a week or two to figure how to make a guide or outline that can be followed .

Still working on getting information on and about how some of these massive worldwide collections are described .

floortrader, I am in the camp of the person you talked to as far as 'types' of worldwide stamp collectors. I see myself as just a worldwide stamp collector with emphasis on US and British. To me there are minor differences such as cut off years or those that get only mint vs used.

I guess there are worldwide postal history collectors and worldwide postal stationery collectors.

I'd like to see any breakdown you come up with.

I am looking at this subject of Worildwide Stamp Collecting as we have it now ,in 2024 .

I have the book "The World's Greatest Stamp Collectors " written by S.M.Bierman but he wrote that 45 to 50 years ago .
Then my self I grew up in a world of two or three big stamp shows in Chicago each year ,then two stamp bourses each month around Chicago .
Then each week there was two or three club meeting each week .

Sorry the world changed , time and place these activities are gone .

Where is W.W.Stamp collecting in 2020's ,This is a different time this is the subject that I like to see discussed

Look at on line chatrooms even they are dying ,this place is not like chatrooms were 20 ,15,10 ,5 years ago . , yes the clicks are still high but those are inactive viewers

Great, very scarce set there Floor. Won't find it complete in the vast majority of collections, aside from mine of course ;-)

The last page of his book about "The World's Greatest Stamp Collectors " says it best .

"It is unlikely that an assemblage of rarities......quantity and quality....will ever again grace one man's philatelic collection. With the rapid price escalation seen in recent years in the value of rare stamps and the JEALOUS GUARDIANSHIP of the true gems of philately,it seems improbable that a single stamp collector will ever again monopolize the highly competitive market ........"

My recent goals have been to fill those holes on a album page that most other collectors also have blank ,Not trying to compete with some billionaire collector for the gems of philately .
