Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

Looking at the Jordanian 1950's sets reminds me how much I enjoy that decade's stamps in general. The 1930's through the 1950's stamps from most Countries have a great aesthetic IMHO. After that stamps kind of went to a more "popular" look, and again IMHO, design was not as inspired and classically designed.

What do you have of the great Italian sets from the 30's to 50's?

Today 10/30/24 Kelleher Auctions had one of their Collections,Stocks and Accumulations Auctions .

The major part which is the country collections did their normal results . But interesting part was the ending part .The Worldwide box lots did very well plus the bulk stock of boxes and red boxes , bookshevels and box lots were a surprise how strong the bidding was and many prices kept pushing higher .

This is also the first auction that didn't have seperate WW Scott's Internationals or the Red &Blue SG WW albums .as seperate lots .Surprised about the amount of bidding for those large lots .

My theory is that you see less because there are less. Brilliant, I know!

Seriously though, given how long it takes to achieve a "well filled" WW multi-volume collection it should be no surprise that their numbers are dwindling. Because the collectors of a certain generation's numbers are dwindling as well. I cannot remember a period of time such as the last few years when so many recognized philatelic figures have passed. The auctions have been packed with their earthly possessions. Or they have retired. Now, somebody is buying their stuff based upon the sales results but I think the style of collecting has changed with the prevalence of do-it-yourself albums. As the overall number of collectors wanes it makes sense that so too will their collections.

Floor what exactly do you mean by "lick em and stick em?" Did the previous owner adhere the stamps down on the page?

Shermae ----- That is the name the guy's at the stamp club gave me . I was 17 years old and all the other members were over 35 years old . All I had was a H.E.Harris Discover album and I took it to club meetings to show all my treasures that I mounted in the album . It was a fun time

When adhesive postage stamps first came out, every time I went to the post office there was a clerk, kind of a comical fellow, who would, whenever someone bought stamps, call out "stick em don't Lick em" loud enough for everybody to hear it and usually followed by some other quirky comment. Nice guy, retired now for several years.

Rodcam - another note is the bigblue albums most of them are in terrible shape. Only matter of time before there are few left.

Agree Green Dragon , my set cracks and splits on the seams just sitting on the bookcase . What I did with my "working set " is cut 1/2 inch on the top of the pages and another 1/2 inch off the outer lip .then punch three holes on the inner side and put them in three ring binders ,the pages will last 100 years and the binders 30 years if your lucky. I really like the "D" ring binders .

Hmmm… sparsely filled album up to 1,000 stamps…. Moderately around 5,000 well filled about 10,000 busting at the seams 15,000? Really after about 7,000 stamps the album should be split into two… not sure how many people are filling those up but I can see auction houses splitting them up

I always liked that 10 cent 'Rodi" stamp with the ship on it.
