The dream of 10,000,000 young stamp collectors back in the 1960's . I first seen the ad for this box in a booklet received from H.E. Harris of Boston Mass. with my approvals .

I remember the Golden Galleon in the 60's! That is really cool. I could not afford the Golden Galleon, so I ended up with the Paper Rowboat with Leak.

The Galleon mixture probably had some China and PRC. All considered near worthless back then. And $2 special may have been from Nyassa.

2 years or so ago I found an old packet I got. The PRC stamps in it gave me about $10 in catalog value. The Nyassa still catalog $2.

I never bought a pound, but I did get cheap packets. It's how I got some PRC. The bicolor stamps of Nyassa were eye catching for me.

The Golden Galleon fine print states "One Pound". The fine fine print states the weight includes the box and wrapper. How cheap can you get?

Harris was (I think) still making mixtures and low-end stamp albums in the mid 90s, when I got my first album aged 5. The mixture probably didn't change much from the Golden Galleon days.

And hilarious to see the fine print about the weight!

I used to obsess over the Harris ads. When I got my red Traveller album at age 9, it came with a pamphlet of all the other Harris products and albums. I read it cover to cover every night before bed.

They advertised an album with 20,000 blank spaces but to me it was 20,000 stamps. Selling hope, but always at a price beyond my meagre allowance.

I think the cardboard box cost the stamp firm more than the stamps inside . It has a beautiful gold foil cover and the box is a good size . As others say it was something to dream about .

I did save enough to buy the much desired $1.00 orange bag at Woolworths, but disappointed in getting tons of duplicates for my dollar .

Nice page, Floortrader!

I know most folks go ga-ga over engraved issues (I do too!) but I'm really loving the depth in those photogravure stamps. The tortoises are stunning. They evoke strong emotion, somehow.
