New collector, originally from North Carolina, USA, currently near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

I like to save stamps and covers from my incoming mail, I really like physical "real" mail correspondence, letters, postcards, packages. My young daughter is at an age where everything is exciting and fascinating and she loves "stickers" so I try to share with her whenever I can, and we'll put some aside for when her younger sister is ready because she can't wait to join us in everything we do. I will buy new issues if they are particularly appealing and would love to get out to some shows or shops. I've been reading auction catalogs and Lawrence Block's Generally Speaking compilation and Error World by Simon Garfield and The One Cent Magenta by James Barron.

pigeons,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Welcome! My daughters have been collecting with me since ages four and six. We go to the annual stamp show and everyone showers them with material to develop their collections. I pull out US stamps for everything they learn about in school. Getting ready to pull out the MLK Jr stamps this Monday. Kids usually get into whatever their parents are excited about. Keep up your great work!
