Morning

Does anyone have any idea what the AC______ is at the bottom of this RPO split ring? Indicia is WEST, in the 1870s.

Thanks!

Possibly: G.W.R. ACCOMODn

(G.W.R. = Great Western Railway).

I've never seen this cancel so can't be entirely sure, but I know it was a split ring cancel like yours used in this period.

Is it an RPO or just a split ring? A wild guess. ACADIA ALBERTA.

The "W____" above the date slug suggests a westerly direction of travel, thus I'd say most likely an RPO. Also the shade appears to be orange red, an 1875/76 shade consistent with the partial 7 in the year.

I've never seen this particular one... a nice find!

I found this sketch of the cancel I mentioned:

(Image taken from The R.P.O. Newsletter of the Canadian R.P.O. Study Group (BNAPS), volume 15, No. 4, page 7.)

Apparently ACCOMODATION means Local Train.

It is not exactly the same, but I don't know exactly how accurate the sketch is.
