Once the eBay item has gone, this thread will be meaningless without a description and image. See image I have added. Here is the seller's description: Up for bids is an incredible classic Newfoundland 1857-62 Heraldic Symbols issue 1/- Shilling key value stamp, probably misidentified by Kasimir Bileski himslef (wasn't always right) showing a few notes in an album he'd accumulated and identified this as Scott/Unitrade #15 but I'd say it's much closer in colour to #23 and I'm not seeing a mesh as #9 would have (see backlit pics for yourself) however it is on hard wove paper so could be properly identified as colour variety of #15 rather than #23, sold as received from a private local estate collection. Fabulous Scott/Unitrade #15 liekly misidentified, or 23 (my opinion), mint without gum and exceptional margins and colour, very fine or better as shown (review all photo's below). High retail/catalogue value of likely $200.00+ usd rather than the $40,000.00+ that Bileski had beside the stamp (current market, catalogue, or owners value). |

This is comical.
I sent a message to the individual who posted the NFLD stamp on ebay. This was their reply!!
New message from: millionairegems (7,523GREEN_STAR Star) This is not a forgery. I can expertize it. I'm an expert BNA philatelist. The only two forgeries I have are the ones I listed today. Thanks. This is 100% genuine. Also came from the Bileski estate.
So my question is " if he is an expert, why cant they distinguish between a #15 or #23?"

Completely wrong shade and paper for any genuine 1/, including rose. I hope a few more Newfy experts are willing to chime in on it. In this case, the cost of the cert might exceed its value. Looks to be in nice condition though. |

Casual observer, no expert. Are members able to explain if the assumption of forgery, is by details of the engraved image (if so please explain for me) or just colour and paper? I was wondering if this may be an example of the Perkins Bacon Trade samples sheets 1902 -1929? |

Good Question Rod, here is the answer. Forgery on Left - Original on Right color is wrong paper color is wrong paper type is wrong stamp is oversized; no vertical space between POSTAGE ONE SHILLING; lettering is wrong, O in POSTAGE is different ING in SHILLING is different background in four triangle spaces has non-inked spaces, clover leaves incorrect, looks like It is from one of the sheet colors that Oneglia made to try and match the issued colors of the three Nfld. Pence issues. Trodent |

I've always looked at apostrophe between N and S. Seems that forgeries don't have much of a hook (blunter) while genuine ones have sharp ends. Not sure if this is a tried and true method. Trodent, any ideas about this? |

Thanks Trodent, I was curious on 2 points, Why the "One Shilling" was included in the "Pence" Issues and Reading Pratt's handbook on the colours, Warning. The observations were a little too deep for me, on a first cursory look. |
