Adding Glassine Interleaves Into An Old Scott's International Junior

This is a newbie question. I have an old 1938 Scott's International Junior album that I bought off an auction. It is in decent shape - only slight discoloration of the pages - no foxing. So I just add to it. All lick 'n stick. Everything is hinged. The album is old, the stamps are old, I'm old - no problem.

But then I noticed that the perfs were catching a bit and I didn't want any rips/issues so I started putting some computer paper between the pages (acid free). But what I don't like is not being able to see but one side at a time.

I saw glassine interleaves (100 sheets) for sale at a number of hobby websites such as 3 hole, 2 post, 5 holes. I don't want any holes. Also would like to secure the glassine so it stays in place.

Hobby stores also sell glassine for non-stamp hobbies such as for scrapbooking. Is this the same stuff?

Has anyone added glassine like this into their old album(s)? And secured it?

Hmmm, not sure how'd you secure the interleaving without holes, glue, or having the album rebound, all of which seem like more effort and expense than what most anyone would be willing to spend. Should you figure out a way, you will very quickly notice the bulge(s) that soon develop as the number of stamps and interleaves grows, to the point it will become very difficult to close the album.

I have actually tried to do this with a bound Junior. It bulks it up quite a bit without adding a single stamp. Bound album+glassine interleaves+lots of stamps will bulk it up incredibly. If you use adhesive to hold the glassine interleaves, it will come loose with use (flipping pages, I mean) and tends to be messy. I have also tried carefully taking one apart and punching holes in it. The paper is flimsy and tears easily, in my experience. The result was less than optimal for me.

The far better option, IMHO is to get a two hole version of the Junior, then get clear or glassine interleaves. You could easily punch it 3 hole and use a Vario G Binder (or probably a couple with interleaves).

I was afraid of that. Right now the album isn't too bad but I have been wondering if I should change it up before it gets too far down the road. I like the 3-hole idea, especially since it can lay flat. If I moved to a Scott International Volume 1 (up to 1940) with the 3 holes, would that be comparable to my Junior (1938)? I keep reading discussions about the Big Blue (BB). My album is big and it is blue but I keep guessing that the Junior isn't the same thing.

Are any of the Internationals printed on one side and not both?

Hi Brian,
The Blue Scot International 1840-1940 began as the Junior International and has a "representative" sampling of stamps, vs. the Brown albums which have every major Scott listing, comparable with the Steiner pages.

So, to answer your question, the Big Blue 1840-1940 would be the same as what you have, with the exception of the addition of the 1938-40 stamps.

I was going to send you a message, but I see you've turned that feature off. Since I'm trying to complete the BB 1840-1940, I have a BUNCH of albums that I've purchased, including, I think, still a few abridged Juniors. Let me know if you'd be interested in one of them.

Thank you Ray for helping me connect the dots. That helps shine some light on what I have been reading. I have no desire to go beyond BB. Does the abridged Junior have the two or three post holes? That would solve my problems. I didn't turn off my email. I'm a new member so I don't have that privilege yet. I would post my email here but I think that is against the rules.
