This got a lot more replies than I anticipated! I am very happy for that!

I do have a bit of literature on the subjects I like (So far, David Cornelius' "An introduction to the Postal History of Denmark 1624-1950," Schmidt-Andersen's "The Postage Stamps of Denmark 1851-1951,") as well as some general reference works (Kenneth A. Wood's "This is Philately," L.N. Williams' "The Fundamentals of Philately") but I do think I will aim to add only works in my areas for the time being, if only for budget considerations. Although I do think I want to pick up some cheaper world catalogs if not just to have reference for any future hyper-fixations!

I've already run into the "Low Print Run" issue I think with some publications, there are at least two books now I've found that I want to own, but are sorely out of print with low print runs, so they're very hard to track down (the APRL has them at least!)

I will definitely also start looking for material in journals, I know the APRL has some journals cataloged (I'm also a member of the SCC and just need to request their password to access older articles.)

@Sorsh
Would it be more acceptable to post in that thread than here? I just purchased a fair amount of the 4ore and 8ore, so I think I'll post in there shortly.

I live in Denmark, I have collected bicolored.

I live in Denmark as well (sjælland) and I'm apart of the "studygroup" on bicolored, where do you live and have you affiliated yourself with some more serious groups on bicolored or just a casual collector?

@Kobland I think it's a good idea to continue on the other thread, I'm a big advocate for using forum sections for the intended purpose :)

hope to find you spark the thread alive again.

I'm glad I bought my Esperanto topical catalogs when I did, over 20 years ago, because they're impossible to find nowadays.

The progression for myself has been, if specializing, see if I like the area I am about to focus on collecting before pumping money into reference material (pre-internet).

The internet has changed the calculus since I can now get pretty far researching on it alone.

I started out, decades ago, after my rebound to stamps after my first youth exposure by buying large mixed WW lots and immediately required a full set of Scott's. My first were second (or even third hand) copies. That did me just fine for a number of decades until I started honing in on particular specialties.

Most of my collecting life purchasing hard copies was a trade-off between monies for stamps vs books. Stamps usually won.

The internet has been a Godsend for collectors but I think that many players still have not figured it out completely. Wish this online forum and Siegel Power Search and JSTOR etc. existed all along. It would have made collecting that much more engaging and interesting.
