In the scf optimizer, there is this comment. Quote: Microsoft Edge will not work at all. Microsoft does not know how to make a browser, still. Edge is so annoying.

My Edge browser displays a number of my emails in HTML code. It has been a known issue for over a year or more with no fix. I have to go to another device like my iPad to read those emails. |

Quote: Edge is so annoying. Microsoft is so annoying, edge and all it's counterparts, are intrusive it continually irritates, why I still work with my beloved Windows 7 W10 my lower task bar, is full of task icons, when I hover there, up pops this inane box full of microsoft social media type clickbait I detest that continual prompting. If I open an online *.pdf it somehow links to edge I am suddenly again in microsoft territory, Grrrrrrr Chrome rules. |

I use Edge daily and it works for me but I also periodical clear out my cache and cookies. This has always cleared up up any issues I might be seeing. For example, ParcelPostGuy reported an SCF issue that I was seeing to; where on some SCF pages it was not recognizing me as being logged in. Clearing the old crap from Edge cache and cookies fixed this. And of course, this also greatly improves performance. On the downside, you typically have to log back into some of your websites once after doing this but this is a small payment for fixing issues and improving performance. Don |

Microsoft = microshaft. I'm sticking with good old dependable Window7. Just had the registry edited to support TLS1.2 so my Comcast email will still work with Outlook2010. I have no desire to become an on-going income stream for MS by changing to WIN11 and paying an annual subscription fee. Yes, I'm a dinosaur, but I improvise, adapt, and overcome". |

Just my opinion after 30 years of IT experience and in the context that I might not a 'typical' user; I always stay relatively (install new major versions of OS about a year into their release) current with my operating systems. Exceptions being server software and when I intentionally preserve a full machine level backup. But for any current production machines I keep them running the latest version of OSes, been burned far too many times with old OS vulnerabilities biting me in the butt.
I do have one laptop running Win 7 right now and am debating if I am going to hack Win 11 on to it. MS automated tool claims an incompatibility, but I know it can run it. I'll probably just throw a fresh HD in it, hack Win11 on it, and once installed move the old apps and files. Don Don |

Don, I'm still running Windows 7 on my PC and if I'm forced to upgrade I'm screwed. None of my CS# Abobe things will work anymore plus Adobe is all subscription based now. Plus the new Dreamweaver, that I use every day, does not have ASP support.
I'm very leery of the cloud based subscription crap now anyway because I broke down and upgraded my Outlook 2007 to 365 and it's horrendous. 2007 was lightning fast but 365 can't get out of it's own way. |

Having been a major user of PC's since their first inception, I agree with Don, always stay close to the latest major release of OS. Doing this you know that our PC is by Microsoft (like them or hate them), the PC manufacturer and all of your other software vendors. Using Windows 7 as it is unsupported since 2020 is just a risk I wouldn't take. Microsoft Edge as issued and released deserves many of the criticisms it receive but as it uses the same engine as Chrome and is therefore very similar in performance.
Even with the latest OS I haven't implemented most cloud functionality except fully automated copying.
Rod, In Windows 7 you can remove unwanted social media, just unlock task bar and then right click and delete anything you don't want. Similarly you dont need to use edge to read online PDF files. I don't have a windows 7 PC to check for actual commands but I know that windows and edge allow you to select an alternate PDF (offline and online) reader. |

Hi Bobby, I agree, I hate 'renting' software. I also use Adobe products but stick with the old apps that you can 'own' like PS 7, Acrobat Pro X. I also avoid Office 365 and instead opting for Office 2019.
I also have several other apps that are no longer stand alone and instead have moved to 'renting' them. So far, I managed to stick with them but do sometimes have to work to get them to install and run. I finally upgraded my 20 year monster Xerox network color laser printer which I had to hack the driver to get it to run since Windows XP. I understand folks wanting/needing to stay with old software. You know it's happening with cars now right? BMW has a model that they put heated seats in all of them, but if you want them to work, you have to pay a monthly fee. |
