James Earl Carter Jr. 39th POTUS has entered hospice. While his actions as POTUS have both supporters and detractors, he is in my opinion as well as many others, the holder of the best set of accomplishments AFTER leaving office. From the Carter Center: Quote: Statement on President Carter's Health Feb. 18, 2023
ATLANTA (Feb. 18, 2023) — After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.

Stamps are only issued posthumously, i.e. James Carter is passing. Thanks for the post, I did not know he was dyeing. In the country, the expression is "in your short rows".... As you always plant the long rows first....the short rows last. I'm sorry to here he's in his short rows. A life well led, a true Christian... "I have fought the good fight, I have run the race, I have kept the faith" .. thanks. mark |

Quote: Why is this sad news? He was contributing to the lives of many in positive ways as such his passing as is the passing of other productive persons is usually a sad but inevitable outcome. How do you, Stamps1962, feel when someone good passes; happy, joyous, filled with glee or no feeling at all? Or perhaps you collect post cards and this fits your collecting interests: |

I live in a deep red area, politically. I've become used to seeing a lot of negative about Carter, that is NOT my opinion. He was not a bad President and his life since has b en an example others can follow. Your post does not look to have been edited, But I was reacting to it as I often do when Carter is being trashed. I'm sorry you misunderstood.

The work of the Carter Center to almost completely eradicate the scourge of Guinea Worm (dracunculiasis) is one of Carter's salutary accomplishments through direct and indirect action. Human cases, which are agonizing, have been reduced from an estimated 3.5 million in 1986 when they started working on it to 13 in 2022! I would predict some stamp issues across the globe on that score alone.

I was not a fan of Carter's Presidency having lived through it. Not one bit. But that is politics and has nothing to do with the human and the sum total of their life. He did amazing work around the World. There is no blue and red in the end. |

Say what you will about his presidency, he will long be fondly remembered for what he did thereafter. As well he should be. |
