Can anyone decipher enough of this Japanese postal card to call its origin, date, or anything pertinent to its identification? Thank you!

Thank you, Rod! This is a good start. If I'm reading the catalogue correctly, mine is the 'PC14.'

The Indicia design intrigues me,
The Japanese script appears in Flower Petals ? Not Cherry Blossoms (Sakura)
and the three "trees" ? or message totems ?
What is going on there ?
Anyone ? Tomoko?

The "trees" are Paulownia buds and leaves from that tree, probably Paulownia tomentosa. It's on other stamps, too. It represents the Japanese government, among other things.

docgfd, this is half of PC15, described as "red"; PC 14 is blue. The one rough edge seems to support this being half of a message and reply card. The receiving cancel is Osaka, perhaps dated 1886 (?). definitely dated1896.

Bravo! HB
Impressive.

and leaves from that tree

I think the script is inside the outline of the Blossoms.

The round things that look like melons are paulownia leaves, is what I meant.

The script is "Japanese empire post" (loosely). A wild guess is that those flowers are morning glories or balloon flowers/bellflowers.

You guys are amazing..! Nearly sorted already

hy-brasil is right, this is a half of a return post. And in the Sakura catalogue page, PC15 is "red". But also, PC13 says "crimson", also says "Return postcard", specifically on this list only. Others, I guess, are just single card, not folded. So, I am guessing this is more likely PC13..? (the value note: the price indication is for both parts are not separated, but one way was used)

Watermark has some numbers, which I am really puzzled, as they are 9 and 10 (or 7), in old writing. I am guessing that is 19, as year 1886 was Meiji 19.

This card was originally folded form, posted from Kyoto (Nishinotoin-cho / Shimogyo-ku in modern map) to Osaka (Tenmaji-cho / near current Minami Mori-cho). This beautiful hand writing was done by Mr. Yamada and recipient name I can't identify.. I recognise some characters, but no surname appeared on search. I wonder how postmen managed to deliver posts those days, without number of house, just saying "East turn from new bridge".

On the left hand frame, it says this is posted on 7 November.

The top left flowers are, yes, Chinese bellflower.

And melony heraldry is paulownia.

I found 4 different Reds in Japanese characters. From top left to right bottom; red, vermilion, crimson and scarlet.

You are more than welcome, Rod! I learnt where to look for those official postcards in Sakura catalogue (where I have never looked..).

Oh, by the way my catalogue is 2012, the value of the item is the same.

Nice colour swatches Tomoko.
In European nomenclature, I would suggest doc's colour to be "Deep Claret"

Taken me a few weeks to become more at ease with "Sakura"
I have inked in an English index front of my catalogue.
