Currently ongoing. A genuine Scott #R115b (50c 2nd Issue imperforate) is quite scarce... but this ain't it, Jack.

It is a trimmed perforated R115c worth maybe 50 cents, already at $27.01 with under a day left to go.

Sure there are 3 huge margins (the fact that the top margin is into the design should immediately set off alarm bells), but the egregious aspect that apparently bidders are ignoring is that you can clearly see residual perforations across the bottom margin.

Notice the "as is" hidden in the title of the listing, although that carries no weight with respect to ebay returns.

Of course the winning bidder will "get a screaming deal!!!" and will likely place this abomination front and center in their collection... until down the line they or their heirs will get a rude awakening.

Bleagh.

Just curious - in cases like this, why wouldn't any seller, unless he/she really doesn't recognize the problem with the bottom or more fundamentally doesn't realize that the stamp just isn't what it appears to be, just do a tiny snip, snip to get rid of the telltale signs of perforations and still have a decent margin?

They just throw everything they get against the wall and see what sticks. I doubt if he even noticed the perf nicks, or even knows that is what they are. Or cares.

A "stamp seller" listing material to highest bidder.. Apparently not associated with any philatelic society or dealers association. Seller states he will not take items back. My two cents- for what their worth- If you will not stand behind what your selling I wont be interested in purchasing.

Yes, I agree that greed is a problem with some ebay sellers. But the larger problem is with the vast ignorance among the philatelic community. My rude awakening to this occurred several decades ago when an older collector showed me his U.S. collection from the 1920's and 1930's with misidentifications of the perforations. If you can't (or don't) use a perf gauge then you shouldn't be collecting the issues that were issued perf 11, perf 10 and perf 11 x 10 ˝. I was accurately doing that as a teenager!

He must have some minions churning these out for him. This is at least the third or fourth one I've seen listed in the last couple of years.

SOLD to the man in the yellow leisure suit for $164.50!

But seriously, stop picking on NYStamps. They have over one million feedbacks and we all know that size does matter.

I'm not sure about that. I've used NYStamps for quite a few things in the past and they've always honored a return without a question. Maybe this item had some different return policy but I couldn't find that in the original listing.

They are a very high volume seller without a lot of description so a buyer needs to be careful - sometimes it works out. In the past, they've been agreeable to granting an extension to send an item into PF for me.

Irrelevant. Ebay/Paypal say they will - and that's what counts.

canyoneer, just as a data point (no judge-y), how many lots have you had to return? Or maybe more relevantly, a couple, some, half, most?

As a point, I see the line about "returns" stating one thing as shown above in original post , but when I clicked on the actual posting at ebay site it states otherwise. ??? What T Ehh! See capture below.
And now I do see below that he will take it back if not as described. Who decides it is misdescribed? Just askin.
