In another thread we were waxing philosophically about misdescribed ebay lots. I personally love inadequately described ebay lots such as the one shown here. The description was certainly correct -

1898 US First National Bank Check, Scott #R154 Revenue I. R. Red Overprint

It was a Buy It Now item for $6.99. Looking at it, it is a very late use of an imprinted check (Scott RN-G1) used on July 1, 1898. The bank ignored that the check had an imprinted 2˘ stamp from before June 30, 1883 and added two 1˘ stamps from 1898 and cancelled them July 1, 1898. For those that don't realize it - July 1, 1898 was the first day of use of those provisional documentary stamps. Knowledge does pay off.

Very nice! I certainly would have snagged it. Nice that it's two 1-centers as well.
