Can anyone help me to identify this US Postage Paid stamp with its Scott Catalog number and year of issue?

That does not look like a stamp, but the picture is way too small. Is it postal stationery, or is it really a stamp ? I tried enlarging, but it goes out of focus in a hurry Please try a better scan

I think you are right; it is not a stamp. It looks like it was pre-printed on an envelope. So does that mean it would not be found in the Scott Catalog?
Thanks for your help Petert..... |

A bit more info would help. Including a much better picture. But maybe you can tell us or show us what the cancellation says. You give us very little besides a small picture. This could be postal stationery ( listed in Scott ) or it could be something else. We need a better picture to be sure

A larger full picture of image and cancel would certainly be useful. And you might show us the full envelope if that's available.I I have suspicions of what this is and will share iwhen a better image is shown.

That is a much better picture, but to tell you honestly, I am stumped now.

Looks like a privately-applied permit imprint made to resemble a stamp complete with pre-printed "cancel". Here's a primitive one likely from c1950 the mid 1960s (with the zip code in the return address) trying to imitate Scott 1058, the 4 cent Lincoln coil: This one I received in June 2007 tries to imitate Scott 3792-3801. It is a little more tricky as to "postal history", as it came within the weekly bundle of ads the postman brings, rather than a separate piece of mail going through the normal handling process. |

Commonly used by commercial mailers to get the attention of consumers. Not listed in Scott. |

What is unusual with the item in the OP, is that it signifies payment of full first class, not a discounted or otherwise special mailing rate. The "First Class Mail" could not be included otherwise. That said there is no date, so it is unknown if, this was posted when there was a non-stamp discount rate for first class letters and if it was, did this qualify for the "metered mail" letter discount.
The "SOC" is of interest as well. I am wondering if those initials correspond to the name of the business sender. No my guess is you, the OP, do not have the full envelope to be able to give the sender's name. If I am wrong, please list the name, no photo necessary. |
