Yes I collect North Korea, I quite like their light pastel shades, and the somewhat niggardly design, it comes together well I think, as a collection and looks attractive on page. Around 1982 they delved deeply into the "sand dune" style labels, starting with Princess Diana, and series like the dinosurs are grotesque, but I guess all countries (including Australia) have been seduced by "financial budgeting" On the cusp of the turn, is this metaphor for the space age a young lad, beatle haircut, and astronaut toy. |

Nice ones scb, I like the effect when (as in the top right stamp) they use the outer border in colour, to "frame" the vignette. Very typical of NK. Whilst they may lack a certain elegance, they are bright colourful and appealing I think. They get their message across with brevity. Their cancellation inks, seem to come in all colours of the rainbow. |

Hi Rod, actually most of the NK cancels I have seen are black (whether real or cto), which is why I have these stamps scanned. It would be fun to know if the (unusual) cancel color does have a deeper anything, or if it's just normal variation. Here's a bit more North Korean fun. This is so kitch  |

Nice one scb From a set of "Conquerors", this one (tongue in cheek) "conquerors of the universe"...hardly, if the future be known it will be probably the humble cockroach or an amoeba somewhere. The "conquerors" sets pose a few curly questions for example would you know... Conqueror of the sea...Fridtjof Nansen? Conqueror of the sky...Secondo Campini? Conqueror of the earth...Haroun Tazieff? |

Just to share an image of what we're talking about, here's "The Conqueror of Sea" set as m/s: These definitely do have some very interesting choices of people. |

Cheers scb, a new find! I have a database of Vikings on stamps, this is a new one Nanson? read his resume on wiki, and it gives one a headache he is one of those rare breed of men that seem to accomplish so much in their lifetime, handsome to boot! I'll remember him as an early commissioner for the league of nations. An exceptional fellow. (well done North Korea) In 1893, Nansen sailed to the Arctic in the Fram[6] (a purpose-built, round-hulled ship later used by Roald Amundsen to transport his expedition to Antarctica) which was deliberately allowed to drift north through the sea ice, a journey that took more than three years. |

I assume the artwork for the Juvalux balloon stamp was done before the stamp itself. I think it was a good decision to switch the positions of the two balloons on the left. The red/white/blue one looks better lower down and the Montgolfier one looks better higher up. It balances out the colors better. |

Hmmm, I was of the opinion the Montgolfier Balloon, was out of place. (Made from wall paper) it didn't see to fit at all. But I get the reason why it's there.
