I am tracking a First Class Package mailing and instead of the usual arrived/departed a regional facility along the way, the only messages are the following. Is this normal or a negative sign for the mailing I am expecting?

Looks normal to me assuming it didn't start from the next town over. This is useless in that you don't tell us even approximately where it started from and where you are, which makes ALL the difference. This type of report may be the new normal. Your mileage may vary and could be better; I just got a first class letter today from Florida to here in California in 3 days, better than the usual 4-5 days.

USPS First Class tracking is only "automatic" when it comes to package parcels (i.e. boxes) and Priority Mail envelopes. First Class envelopes (even the padded ones) are classified as "Letter Mail". They go through the letter-sorting system, which only reads zip codes and isn't set up to scan tracking barcodes. First Class parcels and Priority Mail envelopes are processed through a different system that has the hardware to perform the automatic scans. The only tracking update you will receive on an envelope shipment is the Final Delivery scan the carrier does when they drop it in the destination mailbox. You are fortunate that it is at least showing some progress even if you don't know exactly where it is.

rogdcam: You were correct. How do you know so much LOL? Mailing arrived today with just 'in transit, arriving on time" updates. However, a few weeks ago, I received a similar 10"x13" rigid envelope with "Do not bend" written on it and it had updates about arriving at/departing USPS facilities along the way. Hard to figure out the USPS these days.
