Hi all
Not sure this is right!
The pmk on the supposed 1848-1850 has me concerned.
351 just looks modern!
Second stamp 1853 -1860 looks ok
Would appreciate help here.

The Ceres has been stuck in the wrong place - should be the 1870s.

Thx
As I understand it - (could be wrong) the repub was replaced with empire in 1853
Did you note the first stamp "repup"!

Er, yes, I did. The empire returned to a republic in the 1870s, following defeat in the Franco-Prussian war.

Other thing to note is that an imperforate 20c blue Ceres can be either from the 1850's or '70's, but a perforated one can only be from the 70's

Hi vayolene,

Is there a publication dealing with the rarity of French numeral cancellations?

Which particular difference? The Napoleon has what's known as a "petit chiffre", the Ceres a later "grand chiffre". The numbers identify the towns etc where they were cancelled.

Geoffha
I was referring to the rest of the postmark. The border difference between 1st and second stamps
The first stamp has a unique /distinctive different border" compared to all my other stamps of the same period
They just appear so different
Maybe I'm wrong

@Pshann.

Did you mean the comb-like border of the cancellation the red arrows point at?

They aren't from the same period. The petit chiffre preceded the grand chiffre. Each has its own surround for the identifying number.
