At first I thought the stamp was just damaged at first glance, but then noticed in picture of the postcard I took, when I zoomed, it is defiantly lack of ink from the pressing that is making the line and not damage. What is extra interesting about it, is it makes it so it looks like Ben is looking at you the way it effects his right eye. What are your thoughts? Seems like it is likely a one off kind of error, and no others out there because not look like it was from a damaged die.
Hi Davy, and welcome to this forum. It is difficult to tell what is going on from your photo - a scan would most likely much better if you can do that. Having said that, it seems to me that something scraped across the stamp.
Thanks Petert4522 and 3193zd. I tried scanning with highest resolution, but still didn't look any better. I got some shots through the eye piece of my stereo microscope and added them to original post , which wasn't too easy with eye piece, haha. At first thought you were right about scuff when I started to look closer, but what I thought was scratches were just paper fibers. In fact, it looks like the error was caused by a clump of loose fibers that probably stuck to the die, or stuck to sheet that was stacked on top perhaps. But I can see that the bigger fibers on the paper in same area are clumped in similar ways that lineup same way the ink area is missing.
