I re-found my only cape of Good Hope triangle, and it is in VF condition, no thins, decent margins.

Can anyone tell from this scan if it is Scott #4 (blue), #13 (dark blue) or #13a (slate blue),all with the anchor watermark. Does Gibbons better differentiate between these stamps?

The scan looks good on my monitor, but if anything, the actual stamp is very slightly towards gray-blue

Stanley Gibbons himself, may have handled that example.

A scan of the stamps back would help but from what I see so far here goes.

1) You say you have the anchor watermark, this is a start to a real CGH stamp. Also the secret engraving marks are in your copy.

2)The cancels shows to be real as it has the correct lines and the C G H letters. (see following picture)

3)As long as the paper does not have blue tint to it it gets narrowed down to a Scott# 4, 4b, 4e or a 13, 13a.

4) Stamps printed by De La Rue & Co. should appear fuzzy or lightly printed for a Scott 13, or 13a.

5) They copy shown appears to have crisp engravings and well defined printing making me lean towards it being a 4, 4b, or 4e.

6) So in my opinion a 4, 4b, 4e it may be leaving the color to determine.

7) I would lean to a Scott# 4e as it appears a bright blue. Stanley Gibbons lists this as a SG6 deep blue.

8) Also it appears to be a die (A) because of the thick lettering.

Note* Please keep in mind that scanners and computer screen settings come into play when looking at a stamp on the net.

See the G and faint lines of the H

Thanks for the great information 1775mac! I have learned plenty. My 1984 Scot does not list sub numbers for #4 - what edition are you using?

Here is the reverse of the stamp:

Hi BeeSee, a 2010 Scott catalog and a reference copy of Cape of Good Hope Triangles. I collect Triangle stamp of the world as a diversion from other interests.

No noticeable tint of paper so a cream or white paper it looks like.

If it had lines in the paper it would be laid paper and a lottery winner you would be.

2010 used #4 - 60.00, #4b - 60.00, #4e - 60.00

Hi, I recently acquired this in a mixed lot.

It's a 1 d Cape Triangle which I have tentatively identified as a 3 or 3a depending on the color (which I am not sure of). I assumed it is a 3 because it has a 3 written in pencil at the back and the paper seems less blued?

But what has really sparked my curiosity is a an emblem that looks like a AA at the back on the left, and what looks like a double DD on the right.

This is the front.
