Trying to determine what the sub listing 2. after the f. are? Is that for a 498 booklet single stamp usage on cover or postcard? This is from Scotts 2022 US specialized catalog.

I don't have the newest Specialized, but it looks like they have expanded their listings to show the values on pieces. You're right, it isn't clear whether that is for a booklet single, a booklet pane (not likely) or a sheet single. I'm sure the front of the book has a little more explanation.

A far more useful response could be made if we had the entire 498 listing including values.

Hi John, I was not trying to plagiarize the catalog so I was trying to limit what I showed.

I believe these are the whole pane. The individual stamps are listed just below it

498f is the AEF pane. The four lines of "2" listings directly below it are for various uses of stamps from the AEF pane.
There is no on-cover listing for booklet singles from the 498e pane of 6 (they are quite common).

Thanks John I thought it had to do with the AEF booklet, but how are those different than the regular booklet stamps?

If on cover it is worth a certificate to remove all doubt.

I went through this issue with a cover far more scare than those listed in Scott. It was a 498f single with a 3 cent paying the parcel post rate of one cent per ounce on a four ounce parcel from AEF France. For me the cert is to clearly establish the stamp and perhaps I can get such a usage added to the listing. That said, this is one of those items you need to see a lot of to make the 498e/498f determination.

Aahh, So if you can determine flat plate and date of use then only the booklet stamps with certain edges can be clearly identified as 489e or 499f. Would I assume most or almost all of these were used from overseas?
