I'm having trouble identifying the overprint on this stamp. It is a Paicheng typographed Dr. SYS. My eyesight isn't very good but I think the left hand side says "Change to 50 cents". That's just a guess. The right side seems similar to postal savings overprints. Hope someone can assist...

Here is another one that is causing some difficulty to identify. It is Scott's number 430 with 20c overprint. Can someone identify the district where this overprint was made?

Recently a Chinese collector (who focuses on North Korea), joined the forum.
If you don't get the desired question, and if it is within forum rules, you can mail him directly. I don't recall seeing him post much, so maybe he hasn't reached 50 posts yet.

floortrader, the overprints in your scan, to my western eyes, look the same. What makes those stamps different or from different regions/towns?

I did that about 30 years ago ,using the MA'S illustrated catalogue of China 1988 edition . I would have to study the subject again .

Many of the 20's look to be different, e.g. the curl of the 2 on Kweichow is much tighter than on the others, with the ball at the end almost touching the downstroke

So the overprint says the same thing and you attribute the stamps to the different regions/towns based only on the overprint quality?

The right part reads (meaning) saving to support the country money saver.
It is some type of savings setup. People can purchase in small amount of money, then exchange to money or put into bank saving account when ambulated a larger amount of them.

"You attribute the stamps to the different regions " .Maybe I collect at a different level than others ,sounds like the experts are confused here .

These stamps were overprinted due to the postal authorities could not balance the budget and suffered heavy losses . So a order was cabled to District Post Offices. This was Oct 9th, 1942 .But the legislative Yuan vetoed it so the Post on Oct 26 had to cable the District Post Offices to stop the sale of these stamps However, these stamps have been on sale for a few days.

The chacracters of the overprint and the space between two vertical rows were different in various districts. Also the 20 is different both in location and type .

Hi there,
The overprint reads #31680;#24314;#20786;#37329; which means 'savings' #25913;#20316;#20237;#35282;#12288;which means 'changed to 5 jiao'.
Hope this helps,
