Good Evening,

I have two stamps I would like your professional opinions on please. One I believe is a 1875 S.C. #1 and the other is unknown to me. Would you say these are authentic or forgeries.

Thank you for your assistance

99% fake given the margins and other things.

Where are all of these bogus stamps coming from?

If you are serious.... These could have been taken from anywhere. I can't recall this late in my life. Numerous and seemingly infinite resources.

souldjer777 are you marking these as fakes on the back once determined? If your plan is to sell my suggestion would be to mark them as fake and try and sell as one collection of marked fakes. Might be some interest due to the overall volume.

I have not heard of everyday stamp collectors marking stamps as fake based on opinions from a general stamp forum. Is this a thing?

Both are forgeries.

The first was better-looking and was plated, but failed the test. The second is a fairly common forgery probably made by the Spiro Bros. - really obviously a forgery, at least to me.

And to get technical, the first is not a forgery of #1 where the genuine has wide side margins.

Sounds like someone bought a forgery collections long time ago and did nothing with it . Now years later having no interest in research or spending time learning about them , plans to sell them but hope against hope thinking the previous owner made a few mistakes and hopeing some are real . That is why those are posted on a chat board .

Not the kind of situation I want to help out . Forgeries like the many shown here are regularlity sold at stamps auctions for $800.00 for 1200 different ,all common forgeries . People buy these lots and try to sell them on ebay as forgeries at $3.00 to $5.00 each .Then others think they can sell them as real stamps with huge price tags .

Admins need to give the OP his own section, the number of these posts is rapidly closing in on the absurd.

If there was an authentic/ forgery section I would much rather post there without upsetting anyone.

Nahhh, everything is just fine as things stand. Willing members have the knowledge to share, so it's been an interesting and useful ride. Your mileage
may vary/has varied, but the info needed is not always in reach.

Sites are driven by new content and the more the better, in my opinion. Plus, there is the Google thing where pages are no longer indexed after about five years (and so do not appear in Google searches) unless viewed however many times the Google Gods decide is enough. Adding new content to old threads doesn't count.
