I assume this is the 10-shilling "robes" from the above catalog excerpt. Its nice to know the history of these. Not what I expected, but still nice to know.

I can rule out A, and B. Mine looks like it has the spacing of C, but the letter-thickness of D. I wouldn't say it is any of them. Mine does seem pretty similar to the overprint in the ad, albeit shifted down and slightly right. Comparing the overprint to the flutes in the column, mine looks like it is pretty close to the same width.

What say you?

(Don't worry...if mine is a fake, I can take the bad news.)

Thanks for the info.

Well they would have to be type D if genuine Collin,
other than that I couldn't say.
I always find the easiest is the scan and toggle test
with a genuine example.

This Australian "robes" set are a real conundrum for me,
one of the most classical designed stamps of the Aussie catalogue
yet I really do not like them at all, it's hard to put my finger on it, I find them flat, boring, posed uninspiring.
I am rather surprised they passed final approval.

Unloved? I think not! That stamp has George, an overprint, and then a second. What's not to love?

I've never seen a large scan of the specimen...thanks for sharing!

I suspect that Spock is echoing that tried and true saying that you don´t really love something until it is gone. :D

Hi nigelc !

Below some more about North Ingermanland's specimens:

With inverted overprint (only 3 copies known)

Information-sheets like that were sent to all Finnish postal offices. Some stamps remained unattached, like the one you have in your collection.

Cjd--the overprint on the 10 shilling stamp shows the N at the end of specimen noticeably larger than the other letters. None of the types shown have this quality.

The Glen Stephens advert showing the stamp with the overprint seems to show the N the same size as the other leters int he word specimen.

Just an observation---Ron
