Oh well. So much for being tolerant of people that aren't fluent in English. Especially when members of this forum are from anywhere in the world. As much as we Americans would want English to be THE lingua franca, it is not.

Perhaps it should be in the forum's rules that people with difficulties with English need not post. Or, perhaps they should pass an English test before being allowed to post.

Gosh guys......so I used 5$ ONE time and now I never hear the end of it...!

Now I'm so confused I'm gonna SAY "Dollar 5" when I ask for something.....

...to be real, sometimes I'm typing real fast and get my fat fingers on keys out of order...

Since we're on the subject....why 5 and then the cents sign? Why isnt it in front like dollars? Probably many people (educators...) thought the dollar symbol needed to be on left side of the written number (since dollars are on left side of decimal in math), and cent symbol on right in written number, since the cent's quantity are to the right of the decimal in math?? Who knows....

It does not seem unreasonable to expect posters on a US stamp forum to communicate in understandable English. If I go on a Russian or Chinese stamp forum the language used will likely be the native tongue. Sure, I can post away in English (and it is a very universal language) but it could severely limit the effectiveness of my communication and limit the responses. I would not attempt the native tongues because I am not fluent in Russian or Chinese. I have to accept that and stick to what works even when the best info may very well be obtained from a Russian forum.

I don't think that anyone is picking on anyone. I would say that if you are from another Country, don't lie about your location and people may be more understanding.

PS: English may not be a legislated language, but EVERYTHING printed and written by the government is in English with accommodations for other languages where applicable because we are NICE. Plus, it makes IRS documents more understandable so that EVERYONE can participate in funding Washington.

And everyone uses the services that are funded by Washington (infrastructure, national defense, etc.)

It is fair to say that most of us benefit from some of the services. Whether or not we get our monies worth is a different argument. It is also fair to say that some benefit far, far more than others relative to their contributions. Millions of new arrivals broke laws to reside here now but are the beneficiaries of great largess. Not taking a stance just pointing out a fact.

Anyway, my statement was an attempt at humor given that the IRS is all about equal opportunity when it comes to taking everybody's cash irrespective of your native language.

Love to know how. Far and away the most people here illegally are here because they have overstayed their visas. They came legally, and just stayed. Those who have applied for asylum are also here legally.

Rick,
Don't worry about your 'misstep', if your only forum 'sin' is typing 5$ you are fine.
