I've seen some relatively uneven overprints before, particularly in lesser-known colonies, but this one takes the cake. The last "E" is completely jacked up in the wrong direction.
Is it a forgery?

Also, Stampworld lists this piece as "Carmine", but this is about as "Pink" as it gets in my opinion.
Is the website mistaken?

Opinion:
No such thing, the "O" is part of the date slug
some rascal has added the rest.

Rose Carmine / Dull Red
You shall need to supply a Watermark to suggest a colour.

That's quite the answer! You win for creativity.
To me, it looks like it was burned into the stamp.

I'll do you one better than a WMK. It's a Perf 14, of which Stampworld only lists "Carmine" as the color. The earlier versions have "Rose" added to them.

I agree with Rod. "n / service" looks like someone was creative with some kind of pen.

Probably "NO 17" cancel. You can seepart of the 'N' next to the 'n.'
The 'O' may have been part of the day slug and then drawn just as the suggested overprint. 'O.S.' was used in some other Australian states.

SG 156 Carmine
SG 156a Rose-carmine
SG 156b Scarlet

I concur, someone clearly handwrote the 'n Service' after the postmark.
