I scanned my 4c and 7c admiral stamps and colour-corrected them on my monitor. I realize that they may look different on other monitors. However since they are one image we can at least compare colours within that image.

What I know: stamp 4c7 must be Yellow Ochre since that is the only colour for dry printings.

None of my 7c stamps seem to be exactly like stamp 4c7. Stamp 7c5 seems to be closest. 7c6 is slightly lighter in colour than 7c5, perhaps a 113b straw colour?

Stamps 4c4 and 4c6 are clearly different shades and 4c4 is a pretty close match to 7c7 and 7c8, which are more "saturated"-looking than 7c3 and 7c4.

Anyone have expertise on these and willing to take a look?

(apologies for the small image size, I scanned at 1200dpi but had to shrink to get under the size limit. Colours are the same though.)

These pages (not mine) are from a recent auction, where the consignor had identified the 4c & 7c shades. May be of help. Usual caveat of colours appearing differently with scanner/monitor etc apply...

There are also resources out there - e.g. Richard Morris wrote on the admirals including shades (BNAPS pubs, available through Longley auctions).

Those examples are perfect to help me visualize the differences. I've been trying to get the Morris book but it isn't easy to find. Thanks so much!
