Hi All,
Question-Is there a simple software that I can use for keeping track of my stamp collection for Windows XP and for a PC challenged idiot? Spread sheets frustrate me, so if that's the answer, then I'm canceled.

I use EZ Stamp. It's mostly point and click. Data bases are available for a lot of countries. The ones where no data base is available you can make one. Here is the website

http://www.ezstamp.com/

There is a free demo so you can try it out.

If you have MSWorks on your machine,
I can build a database for you in 5 minutes.
Takes 35,000 rows, 300 fields
It is easy peasy to type in details for you but no images.

ironhelm, I checked out the software and it seems really easy to use. I'm still gathering, organizing, and setting up my stamp corner, so I will be going back to it.

rod, when you say "type in details", that would be from stamps that I already have, right? That would be great except that I don't have any info on the few stamps that I have right now. I do have MSWorks. Could it still be built without the data and maybe with an example of how the info could be put in?

Donna,
welcome to the world's easiest database.
I think it takes just 3 clicks of the mouse to have you started.

You then just type in your stamp details, a new stamp for each "record"
Unlike a spreadsheet, it NEVER loses configuration, spreadsheets
are dangerous to novice users.

Lets say you type in US Scott numbers and the details
You don't have to type in the stamps you have, you can type in ANY stamp, anywhere! in any order! the database will sort it in a nanosecond.

OK lets have a look at mine (Stanley Gibbons numbers)

Lets say you wanted every "gospel" stamp in the US collection
Hit the keys ALT / E / F type gospel, and..........

Going to a bourse? ALT/E/F type "missing" an you have your "want list"

Sorting a bunch of 500 US stamps? sort into values,
ALT / E /F "5c" and you have every 5c stamp in US history
and what year it is placed.

I could go on for hours

You are only limited by what you have typed in.

BTW: half the time you need not type the record,
if in a series like the the gospel above
you hit CTRL ' and the above record is copied,
you simply change the scott number and singer.

MS Works is great because it comes free with many computers. I have and use the "big brother", MS Access because I use it also for my "real" job. You can add images, create more queries, reports, etc.

Yes, MSWorks is a "flat file" database, ideal for beginners,

Relational databases can be headaches for new users,
MSWorks has very little "down time" learning the ropes.
I still use it every day for one thing or another.

When Jubilee asked for stamp links, I opened up a quickie
and loaded all the suggested web links.

My "wish list" would have it loadable on an ipod,
you could then take it with you to bourses for the "want lists" etc.

So Rod, You think that maybe I will be able to do this myself? It looks easy enough.

Of course Donna!

Taking the words of an Aussie...

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

First Organise a position on your Hardrive for a Folder..
Donnas Files / Stamps 20100614

Open an MSWorks blank Database

Save the file to your folder, give it a name and date
eg: United States 20100614

Decide your FORMAT for data, this is the most important thing of all

May I suggest to start...
Cat Number, Year, Type, Value expressed, description

Type that in one record on the first line, widen the cell to accomodate the text and you have a database! simple.

Save the file (click the floppy disk icon)
See if your Version of Works offers an auto backup option

If not occaisionally save your database "Save as"
and save as "United States 20100614 backup"

Postback if you have any queries

Here is your first workshop

Select the following records, run your cursor over them
till they are a dark blue.
Select edit / copy, then go to your database and
right click a blank cell at the bottom of you list and click "paste"

They should drop right in, then change to scott numbers

my 2cents...
I looked at stampmanage. but found lots of incorrect data. Year of issue, perf #'s, etc.. and the "valuing" was way off anything I had seen.
Then looked at ezstamp... I ordered it last week. huge database, accurate, better images... worth the 89bucks for the CD#1 and 2.
I not affiliated with them in any way... so I hope this isn't breaking the rules.. I am just adding my recommendation.

Hi Donna,

I use Stamps2Go Assistant to manage my collection. It's really easy to use. You can put as much or as little information as you choose. You can even scan in a picture. Best of all, it's free. Below is a screenshot.
