Welcome to the forum.

You''ll see that there are not only collectors of US material and postal history here, but also worldwide. And quite a bit of expertise.
A good amount of that expertise is readily discoverable in past posts on all sorts of topics which you can find through the site search function.

Why don't you tell us what your collecting interests are and perhaps show us a scan of some of your collection highpoints. .

Hello David and welcome to the Forum. A very nice place indeed with lots of good information and helpful people. Be sure to read the rules before any buying/trading as you would need 50 quality posts to engage in some activities (like giveaways, etc.) Keep posting and you'll get there sooner than later.

@Drm5516,

as for your post about a Penny Black question in another thread: at the bottom of this thread you will find the 'Quick Reply' box. Above it are icons. The first is for opening a new topic: see the highlighted icon in below image.

Click on it, enter a topic title like "Question about the Penny Black", type your question in the text box, and post your new topic.

Best if you open a new topic in the "World Classic Stamps Mint and Used" sub-forum, but I am sure a moderator will place it in the correct sub-forum.

David,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Wonderful you are carrying on your father's collection. You are the next steward of a family treasure you can pass on to future generations. Its value as a family heirloom wil always surpass it monetary value.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
