This is an item which I want to properly identify. Scott MH22a seems the closest, but Stoneham better identifies as MC1. What confuses me is the spacing between the 2p and the first 1/2p stamp. Is it normal to have wider spacing in one area of GB coil stamps?

I have not seen this before. There are several strips 2p + 2 x 1/2p + 2 x 1p.
I doubt it is a spacing issue. You might want to look for an ordinary 2p stamp by Harrison. Place it on top of your 2p in the coil. If it is what I think it is, the ordinary stamp might have a slightly wider printed surface.
But also check the full width of the stamp.
