Have never dealt with Spink as either a consignor or buyer. Got a letter from them today stating that they will be in the area later in the month looking for consignments. I have seen a couple threads here from a few years ago that contained negative comments on experiences with buying from them. Was wondering if anyone had consigned with them recently and, if so, how good that experience was. TIA.
I have not consigned with them, but I have had an experience that may be relevant to your question. I was a buyer and I had won some lots. After several months I was informed they had lost one of the lots I had won, and they refunded my money. I have a feeling the consigner of the stamps was not too happy about this outcome either. To their credit, they did apologize and did the best they could for me given the circumstances.
Well, so much for that idea. I contacted them to see what they were looking for and they replied that only they would only be interested in individual lots that are worth $1,000 or more. Hell, even Siegel didn't have that minimum when I was dealing with them. I have some good stuff, but not enough to make it worth the bother.
There are loads of lots in Spink auctions with estimates way below that - presumably they're after either very high value individual items or interesting larger collections to break down.
