Lasse Nielsen, a beacon for danish collectors, and a good friend, died may 7th. At an age of 77.
while only a few matched Lasse in knowledge on classic stamps from Denmark and area's, no one contributed more than a fraction of what Lasse published and made available for collectors of his area.
Even around the world most have seen or come across his certificates of which he made almost 200.000 and almost 500.000 statements.
Lasse was a shy person, and didn't appreciate big gatherings. Those he felt comfortable with were invited into his home or converted to "work groups". As shy as he was in public completely the contrary in safe environments and his eyes lit up like a child on Christmas eve when he was talking about stamps or showing off his impressive collection.
and there was no lunch, dinner party or the like without him expecting everyone attending to give a presentation of some philatelic interest or work.
we were expected to perform and always with a certain academic touch.
his collection, as far as we know will be auctioned off at Bruun Rasmussen in denmark, unless he changed his mind in the very last days. Lasse never liked to talk about such things, and none of even the closest even knew he was sick.
In his collection are many completely unique objects only found in his collection or in the postal museum, even if you're not a collector of danish stamps this collection should still be worth to follow on auction.
I praise myself lucky to have experienced a true master up close, you will be missed Lasse.
