I created a new topic ( https://goscf.com/t/84218 ) and I included a catalog number 554a (lowercase a) in the topic subject. But when I view the message it shows up as 554A with a capital A. Why?

I went back to Edit, and I see it still says 554a lowercase as I originally typed it.

Odd?

Yep, it did it again. Right here. This time I made double sure that I typed it right, and preview even shows it in lower case.

It seems the web site is running the message subjects through a Title Caps feature to capitalize every word in message titles, except that numbers like "554a" shouldn't be capitalized, it changes their meaning!

The code prevents people from constantly USING ALL CAPS in the thread lines. I believe that Bobby tried numerous methods to try to prevent folks from using all caps but finallygave up and implemented the code.

Got it. Yes, I see it also demoted all caps PSAG when editing the message title down to Psag, but then it made it back to all caps in the title line.

Writing computer software is easy. Writing software that correctly handles every conceivable edge condition is hard.

I hadn't noticed it before, but the consistency in the thread titles does make it easier to read.

Edit: clarification.

If the software leaves titles 100% alone this group, and the coin group, we would look like a bunch of kindergartners. Sorry if the truth hurts but that's a fact, I saw it very clearly in the beginning. We'd be riddled with malformed titles. All lower letters, all capital letters, half and half, acronyms not capitalized (I add then as I see them) etc. Also we'd have literally thousands of titles that just said Help?

We still get people that use, I think it's called camel case?

CaN yOu HeLp mE wItH mY sTaMp? (Which would actually post like this given the software's help...Can You Help Me With My Stamp?) Yes people still do that. I guess people think it's cute, I don't know.
