Glenwood, AR. Is this a Fake? If not, please advise as it's not in the latest TnT catalog. Could it be a different state? I am thinking "no", because the A is pretty clear under a magnifier, and the "k" isn't bad, even though the "r" is invisible.

Tyvm.

It is listed as a non-precancel in the Ingram database, available at the PSS website.

I found the database. What a formidable undertaking and wow!

But I couldn't find a Key to interpret "Hoover-01" in red ink?

I guess the simplest thing might be to assume that anything with a $0.00 price tag is a fake / postcancel / etc.?

Thanks, chasa.

JanS, just because there is no price published for an item does not necessarily mean it is worth $0.00 or a fake. Most catalogues and guides will have notes informing the user that if there is no price indicated it usually means a price has not been established/determined in the market, by lack of transactions, sales or auctions.

That makes sense.

So does anyone know what Hoover-01 means in Ingram?

Ty.

The Hoover catalogs were published in the 1930's and 40's. Much of the research on legitimacy of precancels goes back to that era.
In the Ingram context, a 0.00 value does not mean what was explained above. It means that as it is not in the PSS Town and Type catalog, no T&T value is applicable.

OK, thank you -- so Hoover-01, in red, has no special meaning except that it's Hoover number is 1?
