If you're gonna do something, at least do it right!

The following is from ebay lot 256081800895.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/256081800895

Can you see which side(s) have been reperforated?

Spoiler alert, ALL of the large sized reds (documentary),greens (stock transfer), and greys (silver tax) have a natural straight edge on the right edge, as they were printed in a pane of 4 with a receipt on the left side, and the stamp on the right side.

Here is an example of what one of the panes would look like, this one is an R725a. Look at the right edges of the stamps, naturally straight edged:

Somebody reperfed a stamp that was naturally straight edge on two edges to create this poor victim.

Shame, it was a $250 stamp!!!!

I have purchased from the seller previously and have let him know.

Just the top and right in this case. I have seen other similar examples, it does amaze me that a faker could know so little.

So, what would a Lang level ebay seller do? Why they would declare the stamp to be the extremely rare error that should have had a straight edge (or two) but was produced with perforations, four known but this is the only one ever to be offered for sale, make an offer, won't last at $14,999.99, I will guarantee authenticity, no returns, sold as is (really tiny fine print at bottom of listing), free shipping.......

Been put up again as reperfed to the right. So the seller missed the top, and still wants too much for it.

Isn't the serial number a tipoff as to the original location of the stamp? Even if the perfs looked good (which they don't in this case) the serial number ending in 29 would say it was from the top of the sheet and should have a natural straight edge.

That is correct; that was how I checked it. Although as you say, those perfs are pretty bad.

I guess the obvious crease doesn't bear mentioning? Also, what is anyone to make of his item description?

I think that is the line from being mounted in a stockbook, I don't think it is creased.

Ah, the horizontal one through the necktie? That line is from the stock sheet. What crease am I missing?

From the pics on the ebay listing it looks like a nice sharp crease.

The line is from a stock sheet - clear plastic, not a crease in the paper of the stamp.

Look to the left and right of the "crease" and you will see it extends beyond the stamp itself.

Thank you for taking the time to create this helpful thread. Sharing your specialized knowledge about reperfs and fakes is so very valuable to the stamp collecting community. I don't currently collect USA revenues, but if I ever decide to do so, now I'm armed with just a bit more information.
