Can someone please advise me how I can tell the difference in the 2023 flag booklet stamps. I am confused by 5790 and 5790 a, as well as 5791 and 5791 a. Thank you for any possible info.

I no longer collect modern U.S. and haven't kept up with the details on these. But, judging from what I see on ebay, there are minor differences between the APU & BCA flags. One caveat ... there seems to be a bit of confusion amongst the sellers, as even they occasionally have one variety offered as the other.
The small "a" following the catalogue number indicates that the item is a full booklet of 20 stamps. 5190 is a single stamp ... 5190a is a complete booklet of 5190 stamps. Similarly for 5191.
The difference that I see is that BCA flags have a small "USPS" under the left bottom corner of the field of stars, while the APU flags have what might be "USPS" written vertically at the right end of the bottommost red stripe. It wasn't clear enough for me to read, so this is a bit of a guess. Hope this helps. Note that these differences seem to hold true for both booklets & coils.
Added: I think I may have gotten the APU & BCA flags reversed. It may be the APU flags with the USPS under the field of starts ... and vice versa for the BCA.

In addition to John's listing above, check the gauge of the "perforations". They are different on both printers, but only by a very small amount

I am sorry to say, depending upon where you purchased the booklets, you may have to factor in the fact what you are looking at is in fact a counterfeit. Direct purchase for the USPS is the only way to know they are good booklets. You cannot rely in dealers, even good dealers, knowing the nuances of the counterfeits.

Thank you all very much. I only collect the single versions of all these new stamps so I guess I have no need for the whole booklet. I really appreciate the info. Thanks. Dave
