I happen to like the helicopter first flights. There are many such first flights in that era from around the country (USA). The reason I like the first flights is that generally that is the only way to tell the cover was transported by helicopter. After the first flight determining helicopter transport is generally impossible.

Helicopter flight covers are a great area for making a collection given helicopters were at the time a relatively new technology. Your pair of covers are listed in the American Air Mail Catalog Autogyro/Helicopter section as number A/H #37. This special flight marked the 20th anniversary of air mail service in New England and as part of the celebration of that date an S-51 helicopter picked up mail from the Bridgeport Post Office Plaza and delivered it to waiting airplanes at the nearby airport. It was more of a hop than a flight. Like most autogyro and helicopter mail, a large quantity was carried and it has minimal catalog value ($1.50) which sadly is lessened even more by the terrible condition of these covers, but they are fun to have and could form the start of a fun collection. Most helicopter filght covers are in this minimal catalog value area so forming a nice collection would be very affordable. By the way, the helicopter used, a Sikorski model S-51, was built at the Sikorski factory in Stratford Connecticut, just a couple of miles from Bridgeport where these covers were picked up.
