Several years ago I recall an article about a $1.00 narcotic strip stamp Type NT4 printed in purple. The issued stamp was printed in green so it was determined the purple stamp was an error.

I believe the article was in the American Revenuer but I have been unable to locate it.

Can anyone help please?

Listed in the current Scott Specialized as Scott number RJA73Ebd - $1 violet (error), type II. Listed as used with a value of $2,000.00

I don't know if it is mentioned in Jim Drummond's work on Narcotic Stamps. If it is he might have a citation as to the article.

The original article was authored by Ron Lesher and Gregg Greenwald and appeared in the 3rd quarter 2014 The American Revenuer, page 93. Drummond's estimate of about 30 copies is based on a reading of the article cited above.

Found two copies on the PF site. Not sure if the estimate of 30 copies known is accurate.

You may read the article on the ARA website 3rd Qtr 2014

@therevenueman. I saw 20-25 on piece, but they were not for sale by the owner. Then in 2014 Gregg and I saw five more. It is quite possible that the original 20-25 have not come on to the philatelic market as of now.
