Thought I'd share a present I made my brother who's not a collector of stamps but loves the military, especially it's history. Value unknown, I painted and repurposed an old frame and used hinges to attach to the dark backside of the existing mat. Let me know your thoughts

I agree.

The cinderellas will gradually fade and perhaps tone unevenly with the hinges partially shielding the backing-board, but your brother will gain more enjoyment than the value of the labels.

Thanks Guys, very much appreciated. Any thoughts on things to do to extend the life of them prior to the build? Or is being exposed to light the biggest issue?

Red inks fade faster than other colors. The bright reds here will turn pale pink eventually (could take years, but less than a decade) if the artwork is hung in a location that gets direct sunlight. Even in a brightly lit room the bright colors will start to lose their pop.
The best thing you can do is to use "UV glass" or "museum glass" rather than ordinary glass or plexiglass to protect the items from UV light which causes the fading. UV blocking glass may be expensive for a piece that big so you could also (or instead) put UV film on any windows in the room for essentially the same result.
Simplest approach though is just don't hang it in the direct sun, and if some of the items do fade after a few years, go onto ebay and find a replacement of the same piece, or something fresh and new to switch it up. You didn't mention if any of the items were personal heirlooms or not.
I wouldn't be too worried about uneven toning from the backing board, presumably it is a proper material meant for protecting artwork and not just corrugated cardboard that will cause the paper to brown.

I actually just picked up a collection of 1000s of Cinderellas and decided my brother would appreciate this setup so before researching I just went ahead and tried to find ones that weren't to derogatory. The collection has a lot of not nice things to say about the axis leaders on stamps. My brother has 2 little girls, had to keep it respectful. Also came with a swastikas on stamps presentation that shows both allied and German stamps and the symbol. Very old presentation, old typewriter work. Beautiful collection...swimming in stamps at the moment.

The Allied did a lot of that. It's also why, when they did the Morse code for V (dot dot dot dash) in the beginning of various types of film, they often did it to the opening notes of Beethoven.s Fifth Symphony, as a subtle reminder that there were great things from pre-Nazi Germany.
