PSE Certified Pigeon Blood Pink - Scott #64a on Cover.
Cert # 575355

I wanted a pigeon blood pink since I was about 7 years old.
On Cover? I had no clue about covers at that age.

This one, on cover, with Ashbrook's notes on the reverse suits me just fine.

Interesting - Ashbrook passed away 8 months after this, in Jan 1958.

Congrats!
Would love to see one in hand. I assume this color can be identified rather easily without breaking out the color chart.
Is it as obvious as pictures make it out to be, Stan?

So Ashbrook didn't think it was the PBP shade?

*Edit* - Forgot to add, gorgeous cover

Hi Stan,

I haven't posted much in this thread, but I've posted a lot over the years on the 3c 1861 shades.

On the rarity scale devised by Mike McClung, Deep Pinkish Rose is a "4" out of "9" and the PBP is a "9". Pinkish Rose and Deep Pinkish Rose are both listed by McClung as Early 1863 shades, and ID'd by Scott as #65, not 64A. The '63 pinkish roses have also been referred to as "Brooklyn Pink" in the past, but they aren't pink #64.

Nice stamp and cover, but I'd be really curious as to what the PF would say on this one. Since Ashbrook termed the shade "Pigeon Blood Pink" (although his reference collection was not found, or not available, so we don't really know what he thought PBP was), if he thought it was PBP, wouldn't he have written that in his notes?

Hope this is helpful, but I've probably muddled the picture a bit,
Ray

So, you wanted one since age 7. There must be a story here about where or how you found this item as well as did it have the cert when purchased or did you get one afterwards.

If you have time and are willing to share, please tell the story.

Beautiful cover and wonderful the notes remain.
