One of the great joys of philately is the ability of the hobby to be accessible to all wallets. If you cannot afford the inverted curtiss jenny, you can print a high def life size and have it in your album (and it looks super) ...or bump into a Stanley Gibbons Catalogue number 1 for 10c from a club circuit sheet. That is amazing really.

Thanks for sharing Rod, I would spend a few cents more for a used copy..must be a reason for the availability of the first issues in unused condition and then later issues become more expensive ! |

Methinks just a fluke. I know nothing about Guatemala (land of the overprint?) I guess 1 centavo would just be a make-up stamp in 1871. Prior to airmail, I guess majority of mail was heading to europe any idea of the going rate then? This is the first stamp prior to the "native indian" I have seen in 10 years of collecting. A long time between drinks BTW Phil, GGibbons suggests to watch for faked cancellations on the used of this period. |

Nice, simple design. I like the happy face in the sun. That is the first old issue with such a sun I have seen other than Canada's first stamp, the 3p beaver. |

Hi Rod, I would never pay much for a Guatemala cancel or error...there are just too many fake double overprints..red overprints that should only have been black etc etc...i see them all the time on ebay and want to shout FAKE FAKE..but its not my business !! |

And Jaipur used the Sun motif in many of its postmarks and in a more sophisticated version and occasionally with a positively lascivious grin on its face. I'll see if I can track one down. |

Nice quartet any gossip on their usage Collin? They have the flavour of "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine." |

Quote: "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine." That's why I love the issues of Morocco's past. Tangier, British Offices, locals, French Morocco, Cherifien Posts, and more. Endless fun. This is one of the many local posts, issued for specific routes, in this case Mazagan and Marrakech. Tanger-Fez is my favorite, I think. |

Regrettably, I wasn't able to find the lascivious Sun, but I was able to track down a variety of other expressions: as well as the discombobulated Sun the laughing Sun and the peeping tom Sun |

Nice collection of cancel hammer imprssions Tony I don't think in all my years of collecting, any discourse on the production of cancellers, excepting Rowland Hills son's "parallel motion machine" |

Quote: That's why I love the issues of Morocco's past You may want to listen to that freak of genius Brian Jones' adaption of The Master Musicians of Joujouka in Morocco in 1968 ....haunting music You can hear thousands of years of history coming down in the music. The you tube video is about half way down http://www.joujouka.net/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMyzV70ESSE#! |

Just want to show off a lovely Souvenir sheet gift from Fred C Dobbs. ( also, there is a trick to find cheap stamps on ebay, via searching for mis-spellings, GUATEMALA- vs GUATAMALA would certainly be one.....) It's happened on SCF see https://goscf.com/t/6483 |
