Hi folks,

I found this image and thought the cancellation might be Indian, but after a rummage through my files I'm not so sure.

Can anyone identify the cancellation? It will date between 1854 and 1860, if that's any help.

The numeral looks like a 107 but 167 could be a possibility.

Thanks as always

@Bobby,

Could it be 491.

I checked for the Dutch East Indies, but there are too many lines of dots and the orientation of the number does not fit.
Another possibility that comes to mind is the French empire.

Thanks NSK, I suppose it could be a 491.

I have lots of literature on French postal markings so I'll have a look and see what I can come up with

The option to route New South Wales mail via Marseilles existed at that time.

EDIT: No joy with France. I looked at the Netherlands also but it's not that type.

I did a reverse lookup and started to get some results for Portugal. Time to investigate further!

Bobby De La Rue,
Not my area but have you tried the dot numerals of early Italy from 1866 onwards? They look similar:
