Hello,

Can anyone please identify the regiment no of the French Marine Infantry cachet on the cover and why was it applied in 1913? The cover was mailed from TienTsin (French PO in China) and it went through the Trans Siberian Railroad but couldnt figure out what was going on there for a Military cachet of the French Marine Infantry to be applied?
Also the covers are pictorial with pictures of Japanese culture. What are the significance of these covers?

Any other details would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Davis

Nothing specific. Every 20th century colonial power had a military presence in China at the time. This might give a little context: http://chinamarine.org/Peking/TheAllies.aspx

Not necessarily anything. Just nice looking covers that the sender acquired perhaps when stationed in Japan before arriving in China. If you mailed a postcard of Niagara Falls from Houston, TX it wouldn't be significant, right?

The 16th regiment appears to have been stationned in China around that time. But it had changed its name on 1 January 1901.
The 6th regiment does not appear to have a connection to China. It was based in France itself.
