Hello!

I purchased a large collection with a strong focus on China. These two were separated from the main collection and only had an asterisk and note that I think says "Germany Off. China Double Overprint - Shansi" ? Much of the collection notations are written in Chinese and the sporadic English notation is tricky at times so this has been a learning experience and a fun (and frustrating lol) puzzle! I cannot find my Michel, of course when I need it most, so I am turning to anyone who may be able to shed light on these. If needed I can scan them in once I get my laptop back at home but for now I will have to use my phone. Thanks in advance!

After some time trying to figure this out, I think I now know that Shansi (Shanxi) is a province in China. The symbols essentially match those on overprinted Chinese stamps such as this:

I can't find anything like this on German stamps so I am wondering if this is some odd home creation maybe.

Lol yea now that I've identified the "overprint", it's looking a little bizarre. The Shansi overprint was in around the 1940's and none of this lined up. Into the "why oh why" facepalm bin they go lol.

It's hard to decipher a lot of this as there is a mix of writings in Mandarin and English and I'm starting to suspect this collection changed hands the more I look at it with one side removing misplaced items. Now it makes more sense why there are blank mounts in the Offices in China section I now see. This is making more sense!

Germany overseas after 1918 other than World War II occupation issues should be a warning.
