(Tried posting this in the other recent thread talking about auction results, but got an error posting. Apologies if this got double-posted).

Audio for Siegel sale working fine today. Selling appears strong. Lots of active bidding from the floor and internet with only a few lots passed (auctioneer acknowledged consigner's reserve was too high). "Western Cattle in Storm" continues to be a popular item, they had about 30 mint copies for sale, I thought I could pick one up for a bargain, but even with faults or regummed (CV $850) and opening bid of $200, they all realized a minimum of $325-$350 (and of course a lot more for NH or better quality). The NH plate block had two bidders run it up to $27K against $31K CV.

Siegel will always be in a different class when it comes to sales. The name alone brings a cache that adds value whether actual or perceived. It is much like Rolls Royce or Bentley as opposed to Ford or Chevrolet. Right now, Rolls is thinking of new ways to make 28-million-dollar cars because their limited editions sell out in hours. The rich get richer and the rest of us.........

Siegel has earned it. In my own experience, when it comes to handling auctions and service, there is Siegel, and then there is everyone else. They are that far ahead. (this said, there are a number of other high quality houses....but think of Siegel as "concierge" level).

I thought the premiere gravure stamps went pretty cheap. #57 for 6000 and 61 for $6750. I also see Posner has already listed the 11X4 he got for about 3x what he paid. So maybe some bargains.
