Hello, I'm thinking these may be parcel tags or railroad receipts. I have about 50 of these, all on same paper, same stamp, cancelled in different towns. Most look to be from '45 or '46. They are cancelled on both the front and back(see last picture). Any assistance in identifying what these are would be appreciated. Also, unrelated question for those who collect Swedish stamps. Are Swedish stamps collected as coil pairs as coils are in the US and Canada? Wasn't sure if that was an area of collecting as most of the stamps are coil. thank you.
aolsson, Thank you for the fantastic information. I didn't even notice the color difference until you pointed it out. I'll probably keep a couple of examples of each type and pass the rest on.
These are cuttings from parcel cards (in English often called dispatch notes) A Parcel sent in Sweden were always accompinied by an address card(dispatch note) The parcel and the card were often sent by separte mail. The parcel card was delivered by the postman to the addressee and the addressee had then to go to the post office and pick the parcel. He had then to leave the card to the post office and sign it as a receipt. The postal administration kept these cards for three years and atfer that the cards were sent to a central where they were cut duwn to kiloware. This kiloware was then packed in 1 kilogramme boxes and sealed. Once a year these boxes was sold at a mail bid auction. Each buyer may buy 3 kg, not less, not more. Normally about 6000 kilogrammes per year were produced. The cutting you have are from this kiloware. If you look carefully you can see two different shades, one yellowish and one greyish. The grey are normal parcels and the yellowish are for Collect on Delivery parcels with payment to of the amount to a girobank account. There were also a rose for for Collect on Delivery parcels to be paid by postal money order. One of your cuttings has a part of a red label and that indicate a bulky parcel for which the fee was 50% higher. There are large quantities of these cuttings in the market. Collectors are searching them for rare cancels but I cannot se any rare ones on the cuttings show here. Coil pair are very little collected in Sweden. Some collects unit of all kinds and collectors of mint coils may search strips of 5. Before 1938 there are joint lines between some stamps and pairs with these are collected of a few collectors. Pairs from booklets are collected much more frequently
