Just bought this R453 supposedly mint og. But when I received it the gum is very dull, not shiny like the rest of the reds I have, Also, something funky going on with the perfs on the top and upper left. I'm tending to think it's regummed. Agreed??????

The perf tips/fibers appear to be gum soaked which would indicate a shoddy regumming job. |

Left side also looks like either reperfed straight edge or scissor cut perfs.
Also looks like there was some effort to rough up the left side perf tips? |

Got it off ebay and seller doesn't accept returns. He's asking I return it and will refund my money. Let's see what happens. One can only hope. |

It is regummed due to the uniform perf tips being soaked with gum. If you were to finger the perfs as well you would find them stiff, not pliant as will original gum. The seller agreed to the return so there should be no issue. It matters not if a seller says "no returns" ebay allows and will for a return from a buyer with a reasonable reason, not as described is one reason. |

The ebay buyer is all-powerful. No legitimate reason or justification is required - merely wanting to return it is enough. There is a proper process for returns which will protect you. You do NOT just send it back and the seller then credits the refund. You will want to go through the ebay hoops and ebay sends the return shipping payment codes, etc. Under no circumstances do you want to do anything outside of ebay's procedures or you risk losing the stamp and your money. |

Are you sure the gum soaked perfs are from a very poor regumming job and not from either too much moisture when hinged or when a hinge was removed? |

It's probably regummed; a 10 second look in person would confirm or deny it, but a scan is not always the best method for telling such things. |

Minefields like this are why I collect used. Hinged, never hinged, original gum, regummed, no gum... doesn't matter.
I'm not suggesting that anyone else follow suit, but rather it's one less pitfall to have to deal with, as the value disparities between the above can be ginormous. |
