Dutch Country Auctions recently had an auction with a couple of these Special Tax Stamps.

I can't find these listed in Hines Special Tax Stamp book. Can anybody shed some light on these? How many years were they used? I don't recall ever seeing one before.

The Hines book is great but it would have been nice to have images.

See Table 103. It appears the title of this STS changed slightly over time.

Some titles changed a few times, such as the billiards tax stamps.

Hi John,

I thought the same thing, but Terence makes no mention of the exact wording of the stamp.

Did a little more digging and found this from the Tolman collection from Siegel's 2007 auction.

My guess is the title changed in 1914?

This particular designation was used from 1898 to 1901.

Based on who was being taxed, this particular STS looks like it was applied to vaudeville and magic lantern (early slide projection) or moving picture shows. Great theater history!
