Hello all. I'm a new collector at 53 from Kentucky. I have an interest in primarily collecting blocks from 1975 back as far as I can....Now back to Scott #500. From there on, I am collecting singles.

I am also interested in airmail and periodical stamps.

Carbonstrategy,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Welcome.
I'll assume your collecting interest is U.S.

When you say you're collecting blocks, is that plate blocks? There's a fair number of folks who collect plate number singles as an alternative to blocks…

Feel free to post a scan or two of item(s) from your collection that stimulate your enthusiasm.

Hello I'm Deb, I came across a stamp collection from buying storage units and I do not know anything about them. I have anywhere from 500-1,000 dating back from 1861 the one think that caught my attention was two stamps separated at the front of the book and when I looked them up one 3 cent Benjamin Franklin reddish one looks exactly like a rare one online. I know it's far fetched what do I need to look for?

Deb - best to start a new thread and upload a scan of some of your stamps.

Hello Deb,

as GeoffHa suggested, please, start a separate thread and upload a scan of any stamp you want to know more about. Please, be aware thar a picture taken with a camera, usually, does not show enough detail.

Often, a rare stamp looks almost the same as a common stamp. The probability of encountering the rare variety in a collection you found is very slim.
